Research Stories

From research to product: the part rarely told

The distance between a promising research result and a sellable product is far longer than it looks from outside.

A research result is not a product

A laboratory finding usually speaks about one condition, one scale, and one sample. A product has to work across many conditions, at far greater scale, with material that is never uniform.

Four gaps to close

  • Scale. What works at 500 ml often fails at 500 litres
  • Material. Research samples are selected; production material arrives as the field delivers it
  • Time. The product must stay the same after weeks on a shelf
  • Documents. Large buyers do not buy a story, they buy a specification

Why this service exists

This distance is why so much research stops at publication, and why so many small producers stall at a product that cannot move up.

PHI walked that distance for its own products first. The product development service offered today is the same path, run for someone else.
